Pollinators Art Exhibit – Artist Reception

With spring upon us, Art at the Cave welcomes a month-long exhibit on pollinators. Brainchild of Sharon Agnor, Cindy Geffel and Kathy Willson, this exhibit celebrates the many creatures that spread the seeds of life, supporting our ecosystem on the most basic level.

Pollination is essential to life, yet habitat destruction is compromising the future of many pollinators. One quarter of North American bumble bees are facing some degree of extinction. Native bees are losing habitat nesting sites and the Monarch butterfly is expected to be listed as endangered later this year. Through artful interpretation, this exhibit celebrates the creatures whose tiny footprint makes a big difference and urges the public to consider practices that avoid pesticide use and other damaging methods of land management.

Each artist is connected to this exhibit in a special way. Cindy Geffel lives in a rural environment where she pursues beekeeping, as well as mixed media painting and sculpture. Kathy Willson grew up in a rural Washington town. She was one of the original members of “The Women Who Weld,” and also enjoys working in clay. Sharon Agnor works in glass and metal, often combining the two, as demonstrated in her most recent public sculpture installed last summer on the corner of Evergreen and Broadway.

Art at the Cave is fond of our regional artists and passionate about the environment. Any show where these two elements align is expected to produce a bounty of creative activism. Please join us in our efforts.

The gallery is free and open to the public Tues-Thurs 11-5pm and Fri/Sat until 6pm.

An Artist Reception is on First Friday, May 3rd from 5:00pm – 9:00pm and the Artist Talk is Saturday, May 18th from 1:00pm – 2:00pm.

Art at the Cave is located at 108 E. Evergreen in downtown Vancouver, WA.
